Chapter 6:Visual Analysis:Personal Image Analysis Assignment

The image I choose was Muhammad Ali boxing his opponent. When I first saw the image my personal reaction was intensity and fear. The image throughout history is well known based on Muhammad Ali’s great athletic abilities in boxing. The image of Muhammad boxing was around the year 1975. The image represented the sport of boxing and the connection of the athletes. The camera helped place these photos for memory of the best fights seen and helps portray what was seen live. The image of Muhammad Ali was an action shot taken by a photographer through black and white film. The image seems of good quality. The ethics mantra is shown as success in the photo because Muhammad Ali is getting his “job” of boxing accomplished. The picture does not show any justice for the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule is having an individual try and be as humane as possible and not to harm anything through actions. Hedonism as the original intent proves the picture of not having any ethical relation. However, the modern use of Hedonism shows the photographer took these pictures to gain money and personal pleasure. The Golden Mean relates to the picture through black and white film and was used to put in the newspapers for people to look at and get the word out about boxing. If you break of the idea of categorical and imperative through boxing would be justified based on the rules of the game and outcome. But, the meaning together does not follow the correct outcome. There is harm in boxing and no positive outcome. The boxers don’t form any type of utilitarianism because there is no large benefit to the community. The image may teach people to not fight based on the outcome of one boxer, but it depends how gruesome it gets. The veil of ignorance shows that two mean are the same and are fighting for the chance to win. The culture perspective is represented throughout the picture based on Muhammad Ali as one of the best boxers of all times. The image shows experience and hard work through becoming an African American athlete. The image represents hard work and intense athletic ability. The picture also shows a time and place and the things that went on during that time period. The photo also represents a famous boxer and all time fighter.
The image I choose was Barak Obama giving a speech. When I first saw the image my personal reaction was sincerity and seriousness. The image of Obama will forever be remembered based on his ability to speak and let alone be the first African American President. The image was approximately in the years of 2008 to present day. The image represents Obama discussing American issues to the world. The photograph will be a great memory to America because Obama is so great with words and is the first African American President. The image of Obama giving the speech was taken by a professional photographer through color imagery. The image is of extreme good quality. Obama through the photo represents ethic mantra based on getting his job done as a president to America. The president in the photo is representing the Golden Rule and following it by trying to be as humane as possible and not to harm anyone. Obama follows Hedonism somewhat. He is showing pleasure in being the president and getting the job done. The same time, Obama IS worrying about the future. Obama’s number one job is to work with the present and the future of America. The photographer took this picture to have as memory but also to gain some personal income. The Golden Mean relates to the picture as color and used on the internet or any type of media source to show the president speaking. Obama is trying to portray the idea of categorical imperative ethics by having no harm in having a positive outcome for America today. Obama is definitely portraying the idea of utilitarianism by having a large benefit to the community. The image of Obama being serious may get people to follow his lead and start taking issues much more serious. Obama is representing veil of ignorance by showing America we are all the same fighting for the right to make things work. The culture perspective is showing Obama speaking to America but being the first African American president. The culture is very important because of all the issues that went on between African American and Caucasian people in the past. The picture represents acceptance and justice. The picture also shows the experiences that Obama had to take to get there and hard work.  The image represents the first African American president, seriousness, and sincerity. The picture also represents the time and place of the speech, historical background.
